The Girls Code Fun Foundation has been working for years to promote equality in technology education by implementing programs that support teachers and students in developing IT skills. In response to the challenges highlighted in Google’s Breaking Barriers report, the Foundation launched two key projects in 2023: #Cosmic Lesson and Girls Rule in Python.
#Cosmic Lesson – support for teachers
The program, aimed at teachers of grades 4–8, attracted over 120 participants from across Poland. Special support was provided to teachers from the Podkarpackie and Lublin regions (20% of participants) and educators of Ukrainian origin (10%).
The project’s main goal was to use Scratch – a free tool for learning programming – in teaching various subjects such as mathematics, Polish language, chemistry, or music. As many as 87% of teachers rated the workshops as “Extremely useful,” and 94% gave high marks to the course delivery.

The project proved that technology can be a key to engaging students, making lessons exciting and interactive. Thanks to the training, teachers gained new skills that enable them to better meet students’ needs in the digital era.
Girls Rule in Python – empowering young women
The project, dedicated to high school students aged 14–18, attracted 200 participants, including 40 with refugee backgrounds. The goal was not only to teach Python basics but also to build confidence among girls and break stereotypes about the IT industry.
The first part of the project involved intensive programming workshops where participants created their own computer games. Later, the girls benefited from 3-month mentorships led by women from the IT industry.
Mentorship proved to be crucial in building confidence and developing interests. As one participant noted:
“I gained the confidence that I can learn Python and work in this field, even though it is often dominated by men.”
Impact of the Foundation’s projects
- 120 teachers acquired tools to conduct engaging IT lessons.
- 200 girls discovered the potential of programming and received support for further development in IT.
- Mentors helped participants not only with learning but also in building motivation and confidence in their abilities.
The Girls Code Fun Foundation’s projects, such as #Cosmic Lesson and Girls Rule in Python, are transforming IT education in Poland. By supporting teachers and students, the Foundation demonstrates that technology can be inspiring and accessible to everyone. Thanks to these initiatives, teachers, students, and their families gain new perspectives and confidence that the future of IT is also for women.
