Anna Święs
student, intern in the Order to Cash Department
I’m a GBS student at the Cracow University of Economics, specializing in business analytics. Analytical thinking and working with numbers have always come naturally to me, which is why this field quickly drew me in and shaped my career plans. By chance – driven by curiosity and a desire to grow – I discovered a new passion: programming, thanks to the Girls Code Fun initiative. The Java JUMP project allowed me to combine data analysis with coding and opened up entirely new paths for development. In the future, I want to merge both areas, using both analytical and programming skills.
What are you currently doing professionally? What are your long-term goals?
I’m currently finishing my bachelor’s degree and starting my professional journey with an internship in the OTC (Order to Cash) department. I see it as a great opportunity to learn about business processes and gain my first experience in an international environment.
What motivated you to join the Girls Code Fun Foundation’s project?
Before this, I had no large-scale experience with programming and thought it might be out of reach for me. But I’m someone who enjoys challenges and is always eager to learn. When I saw the recruitment announcement for Java JUMP, I felt it was the perfect moment to give it a try and invest in my growth. I thought – even if programming didn’t become my everyday job – I wanted to embark on an exciting adventure, develop new skills, and meet inspiring people through the course. I didn’t know then that programming would become my passion.
What starts as simple curiosity can turn into a true passion.
What skills or knowledge did you gain during the program?
The Java JUMP course gave me a wealth of knowledge that helped me dive into the world of Java programming and understand how an application is built step by step – from what happens “behind the scenes” to what the user sees. It was especially inspiring to see how all the elements come together to form a cohesive whole. Although I know there’s still a long road ahead, the course made me feel much more confident in the IT world. I plan to keep developing my skills by working on personal projects and exploring the endless possibilities that programming offers.
What kept you motivated to continue with the program?
From the very first session, I knew this was an intense project that offered a comprehensive foundation in programming. I realized I could gain a lot from it through consistent learning and perseverance – and that became my motivation. This solid dose of knowledge was definitely a challenge -especially at the beginning when everything felt like black magic -but it only got better with time. Early weekend mornings were a bit tough too, but with the help of coffee, I managed to get used to them 🙂
How has the program influenced your professional or educational future?
Participating in the program broadened my horizons and reshaped my career plans. I now see my future and further education in the field of data analysis and programming – I want to keep developing both my technical and analytical skills.
Do you feel more confident in your IT and tech skills now?
Absolutely! I used to have no clue about programming, and now I work with code comfortably and build my own projects.
What advice would you give to other girls considering joining Girls Code Fun projects?
Go for it! Girls Code Fun projects are a fantastic opportunity to grow your skills and discover new interests in a friendly, supportive environment. You’ve got nothing to lose – and everything to gain.
