Marta Obidowska

Risk office intern

I am a student of mathematical modeling and data analysis. I am currently doing an internship where I work with analytical tools such as Excel and programming languages on a daily basis. I have experience in creating educational content in mathematics and in data analysis and programming projects. My goal is to work in the field of data analysis and technology, combining mathematical precision with innovative solutions. In my free time, I love going for long walks by the sea and watching movies and series.

What are you currently doing professionally? What do you want to do ultimately?

I am currently interning at one of the Tri-City companies. I work there in the risk modeling and analysis department. In my daily work I use a lot of IT tools, such as Excel or programming languages. Ultimately, my dream is to work with data and its analysis in a broad sense.

What prompted you to take part in the Girls Code Fun Foundation project?

I wanted to expand my skills and learn a new programming language. Up to that point, I had mainly worked in Python, R and SQL, but I had never been exposed to Java. So I decided to take on this challenge and gain a new competence – and it was worth it.

Above all – don’t hesitate and give it a try. Programming can be a challenge, especially at the beginning, but don’t let minor difficulties discourage you.

What motivated you to continue participating in the project? What were the biggest challenges you had to overcome during the program?

I wanted to gain a solid foundation in a new programming language, and my biggest motivation was the popularity of Java and its widespread use in many companies. I knew that its knowledge would be a valuable asset in realizing my professional dreams. The biggest challenge proved to be getting up in the morning on weekends. I was convinced that I was a typical sleeper, so the prospect of morning classes didn’t seem very enticing. However, with a clearly defined goal, even the wake-up calls weren’t as terrible as I expected.

Did the project help you decide to continue your education or work in IT?

Definitely yes! Participation in the project made me realize that I want to associate my future with technologies. I discovered in myself a great determination and motivation to learn, so I gained a solid foundation in a new programming language, which I will develop in the future. In addition, the project helped me make an important decision – the next stage of my studies will be related to IT in a broad sense.

What advice would you give to other girls who are considering taking part in Girls Code Fun Foundation projects?

First of all – don’t hesitate and give it a try! You don’t need to have prior experience in technology or programming – Girls Code Fun Foundation projects are designed just to help you take the first step. You will receive support that will facilitate learning and help you at the start of your career. By participating in GCF projects, you will build a valuable network of contacts and meet extremely supportive people. One of them is Ania – it is thanks to her commitment that all projects are worked out to the smallest detail and geared towards the greatest possible benefit for the participants. Programming can be a challenge, especially at the beginning, but don’t let minor difficulties discourage you. In GCF projects, you have access to fantastic teachers and mentors who will help you gain knowledge and support you at every stage of learning – even the smallest problems.

What would you like to achieve in the next year, given what you learned in the project? Or what you have achieved one year after completing participation in the GCF project.

Within the next year, I will complete my bachelor’s degree and start my master’s degree. Participation in the Java Jump project gave me the courage to continue my development and solidified my decision to continue my education in a field related to programming and data analysis. Thanks to the support of the Girls Code Fun Foundation, I was able to clarify my goals and step by step set a career path that fascinates me the most.
