Joanna Kogut

Java JUMP Ambassador

I enjoy setting new challenges for myself – it’s what drives me. I value systematic learning and, above all, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. My goal? Definitely further professional development in the IT industry. I want to effectively apply the skills I’ve acquired in my daily work.

What prompted you to take part in the Girls Code Fun Foundation project?

I was looking for an opportunity where I could learn something new and develop my technical skills. Based on my previous experiences, I felt drawn towards backend development – so learning Java was a natural choice for me. The Java JUMP project turned out to be a great opportunity to gain solid foundations in this area. I knew that if I was going to invest my time in learning, it had to be through a project like this.

What skills or knowledge did you gain during Java JUMP? Do you use them at work?

Thanks to Java JUMP, I gained not only solid foundations in Java but also the confidence that I want to develop further in this direction. I learned the principles of OOP, the basics of testing, and practical coding skills. Since then, I have been deepening this knowledge, and soon I will be applying it professionally—I’m about to start a two-year IT program at HSBC, where they will become part of my daily routine.

After completing Java JUMP, I passed the Java technical recruitment test and have just started a two-year IT program at HSBC.

What motivated you to participate in Java JUMP? Learning Java or also the possibility of later employment at HSBC?

What motivated me the most was the desire for growth and the satisfaction of making real progress. Java JUMP was an intensive program — with meetings every weekend for two months, it required good organization and consistency. The biggest challenge was balancing learning with other responsibilities, but the great atmosphere in the group made it all worthwhile. I was surrounded by ambitious people who gave me energy and motivation. Today, I know it was worth it — it was an investment in myself.

From what we hear, you squeezed the maximum out of the Foundation’s project? Knowledge + employment – sounds like a new direction in life.

Definietly yes. Thanks to Java JUMP, I not only gained knowledge but also received a real opportunity — I will soon start my career path in IT through a two-year program at HSBC. The program helped me focus my professional direction and confirmed that technology is my future.

What do you consider the biggest win of participating in the project. You finally invested the time to be where you are. It took determination.

Moją największą wygraną było przekonanie się, że naprawdę mogę zmienić swoją ścieżkę zawodową i wejść do branży IT. Java JUMP otworzył mi drzwi do programu w HSBC, ale też dał coś więcej – wiarę w siebie, nowe znajomości i ogrom inspiracji. // My biggest achievement was realizing that I can truly change my career path and enter the IT industry. Java JUMP opened the door to the program at HSBC for me, but it also gave me something more — confidence, new connections, and a wealth of inspiration.

What would you like to achieve in the coming year? You are going like a storm Asia, so what you say has a great probability of fulfillment!

I plan to systematically deepen my skills. I want to develop both practically and theoretically so that I can use the knowledge I’ve gained more effectively in my daily work. My goal is not only to expand my competencies but also to gain experience that will enable me to confidently tackle new professional challenges.

What advice would you give to women who are considering whether to take the step and apply to Java JUMP?

My advice to girls who are considering participating inJava JUMP project is simple: don’t hesitate! It’s a unique opportunity to gain practical skills and meet inspiring people. It’s worth investing your time and energy – this could be the first step toward fulfilling your professional dreams. Also remember, you don’t have to know everything right away – what matters most is being open to learning and staying persistent.
