Kasia
Junior Java Developer
I hold a degree in Computer Engineering and a Master’s in Law. I began my career in IT at Mobica, developing web applications, and later at Intel, where I worked on test tools and applications supporting engineering teams. Working in a large technological environment taught me consistency, collaboration, and responsibility for code quality. After several years of intensive professional work, it was time for a parental break. When I decided to return to the industry, I joined the Java Jump Summer Bootcamp. Thanks to this program, I refreshed my knowledge of Java, frameworks, and technologies (Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Maven, Hibernate), while also deepening my skills and experience. Today, I can proudly say that I am returning to the industry – starting my new role as a Junior Java Developer.
What motivated you to take part in the Girls Code Fun Foundation project?
At the IT job fair I received a very kind message about the possibility of taking part in the summer Java bootcamp. To be honest, I had not planned it at all, but after a conversation with Ania Osowska I let myself be convinced and decided to apply for the project.
Could you describe the skills or knowledge you gained from participating in the program?
The course was based on a thorough study of the Java language together with the most popular tools and frameworks for creating REST web applications. A few years ago I had already worked programming in Java. Thanks to this training I was able to recall the language, learn about the changes that had taken place during that time, and gain a better understanding of modern frameworks.
I believe that sometimes a single unexpected invitation is enough to return to the right path – with new energy and greater confidence than ever before.
What motivated you the most to continue your participation in the project?
The project was led by experienced female programmers, and taking part in it was a pleasure. The atmosphere of the course was intimate, almost ‘homelike’. The instructors were kind and positive – and that certainly made participation in the course enjoyable. The greatest challenge for me was balancing the course, which took place in the evenings, with family life.
How did the program influence your professional future? Did it change your approach to technology, your career goals, or your life goals?
The course very naturally showed me that I feel comfortable with backend technologies – practice and exercises allowed me to further develop my skills.
What are your future plans, considering the skills you gained in the project?
When I started the course I was after a parental break. The course gave me not only technical knowledge, but above all new energy to act. Moreover, just one month after its completion I got a job as a Java programmer :-). It was a huge step forward for me.
What advice would you give to other girls who are considering taking part in Girls Code Fun Foundation projects?
I truly encourage taking advantage of emerging opportunities for development – to learn and to boldly reach for new experiences. Even if at first they seem difficult or hard to reconcile with everyday life – it is worth trying. With time it turns out that the world adjusts, everything begins to fall into place, and we gain valuable, practical digital competences that stay with us for a long time.
